97 years ago today, March 13, 1928 (February 22, 1928 in the lunar calendar), a California dam collapsed, killing more than 400 people. In the early morning of March 13, 1928, the Francis Reservoir in Los Angeles collapsed and burst. More than 40 million cubic meters of water poured into the San Francisco Canyon and the Santa Clara River Basin. The 78-foot-high water swept away homes, pastures, roads, bridges, livestock, and what is even more tragic is that people were swept away. At least 700 people are missing in the area, and more than 400 are expected to die. Residents received few alarms, hundreds of houses were shattered like eggshells by water, and in some places, most residents of houses within a 60-mile wide range drowned, causing damage to amount to $15 million to $30 million. The army bravely carried out the rescue, but the riverbed formed by quicksand hindered the rescue workers 'work. Typhoid vaccination has begun. A thorough investigation has been ordered, but this is only one of a series of disasters that have hit the Los Angeles water system since 1924.
