He moved to Switzerland in 1959 and visited China three times in 1960, 1964 and 1970. He wrote a large number of reports introducing China's socialist revolution and construction, contributing to enhancing understanding and friendship between the Chinese and American peoples. He died in Geneva on February 15, 1972. According to the will, part of the ashes will be buried on the shores of Weiming Lake at Peking University in China.
