Forty-five years ago today, on March 14, 1980 (January 28, 1980 in the lunar calendar), the Communist Party of China reiterated several norms of political life within the party. On March 14, 1980, the Fifth Central Committee of the 11th CPC Central Committee adopted the "Several Guidelines on Political Life within the Party." Its purpose is to comprehensively restore and further carry forward the party's fine traditions and style, improve the party's democratic life, safeguard the party's centralization and unity, enhance party unity, consolidate party organization and discipline, and improve the party's combat effectiveness. The central government, based on the current situation of the party, reaffirms to the whole party the following principles for intra-party political life. There are 12 principles in total: 1. Adhere to the party's political and ideological line; 2. Adhere to collective leadership and oppose individual arbitrariness; 3. Maintain the party's centralization and unity and strictly abide by party discipline; 4. Adhere to party spirit and eliminate factionalism; 5. Tell the truth and match your words and deeds; 6. Carry forward intra-party democracy and correctly treat different opinions; 7. Protect the rights of party members from infringement; 8. Elections must fully reflect the will of the electors; 9. Fight against erroneous tendencies and bad people and evil deeds; 10. Correctly treat mistakes comrades; 11. Accept the supervision of the party and the masses; 12. Study hard and be both popular and professional.
