Breaking-News >> TodayHistory September 9, 1997 Boeing launched the world's longest passenger aircraft
On this day, 28 years ago, September 9, 1997 (August 8, 1997, the lunar calendar), Boeing launched the world's longest passenger aircraft. Driven by fierce competition in the global civil passenger aircraft market, Boeing held a delivery ceremony for the new passenger aircraft Boeing 777-300 at the Everett Plant at its headquarters in Seattle, USA on September 9, 1997. Boeing 777 program vice president and general manager said that the Boeing 777-300 is by far the world's longest airliner, with a total length of 73.8 meters. The Boeing 777-300 has the same passenger capacity and range capabilities as the Boeing 747-100 and 747-200, but the Boeing 777-300 uses more advanced composite materials and processes to fly smoothly and make low noise to ensure passenger safety and comfort. It uses only two engines, which saves 1/3 of fuel and 40% of maintenance expenses compared with passenger aircraft with three or four engines of the same model and similar number of seats in the world. As a result, airlines can reduce operating costs by 1/3 and have better economic benefits. The Boeing 777-300 uses three engines: Pratt & Whitney, General Electric and Rolls-Royce. Users can choose one of them. It has been welcomed by airlines around the world since its launch. Cathay Pacific Airways in the Special Administrative Region of China Hong Kong has ordered seven Boeing 777- 300s, the first of which was put into operation in May 1998.
