In 1927, the Wuhan government faced serious threats from imperialism and warlords militarily and economically. At this time, Wang Jingwei and his gang took control of the Wuhan government under the guise of a false leftist. On April 3, Wang Jingwei returned to Shanghai from Europe via Moscow. On April 5, Wang Jingwei and Chiang Kai-shek held a series of anti-communist meetings in Shanghai and reached an anti-communist agreement. On the 5th, Wang Jingwei and Chen Duxiu jointly issued a joint declaration in Shanghai. On April 10, Wang Jingwei arrived in Wuhan, disguised revolution, shouted revolutionary slogans, tried his best to pretend to be a "leftist" party, and took over the posts of Chairman of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang Party and Chairman of the National Government. Soon, he became uncharacteristically abusive and cursed the worker-peasant movement for "going too far." In May, the two largest farmers 'associations at that time, Huanggang and Huangfang in Hubei, were dissolved. In July, a counter-revolutionary coup was launched on July 15.
