On this day, 86 years ago, on May 11, 1939 (March 22, 1939, the Lunar Calendar),"Yellow River Cantata" was sung for the first time. On May 11, 1939, at the celebration meeting in the auditorium of Yan 'an North Shaanxi Public School, Lu Yi teachers and students sang "Yellow River Cantata" for the first time, with Xian Xinghai personally conducting it. The roar of the Chinese nation spread even more vigorously throughout China and even the world. This work is a collaboration between musician Xian Xinghai and poet Guang Weiran (Zhang Guangnian). The two met in Shanghai in 1936 and once collaborated on the "Song of Gorky's Death". After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the two men successively joined the National Salvation Theater Team and came to Wuhan to work with the Political Department. When Guangwei passed the Yellow River, he saw with his own eyes the great style of this mother river that raised the Chinese nation. Coupled with the deep and powerful trumpets of the boatmen, it was thrilling. The poet was full of passion, inspired, and decided to put it into words. Soon after, the poet fell from a horse and injured his arm, so he was transferred to Yan 'an for treatment. At this time, Xian Xinghai, who was already teaching at Luyi, heard the news and walked 20 miles to Ershilipu Heping Hospital to visit old friends. The poet talked freely about his thoughts on the Yellow River with deep love. Xian Xinghai's creative inspiration was stimulated and he immediately decided to cooperate. Guangweiran, who was only 25 years old, lay in his hospital bed and dictated. Others recorded that he wrote all the lyrics in just 5 days. Then, Xian Xinghai began to compose music and struggled for six consecutive days despite his illness to complete this epic and immortal work.
