On this day, 76 years ago, on February 20, 1949 (January 23, 1949 in the lunar calendar), the Kuomintang moved cultural relics from the Forbidden City to Taiwan. The Palace Museum when the Kuomintang controlled Peiping On February 20, 1949, the Kuomintang government used the Navy Kunlun Ship to transport cultural relics from the Palace Museum and Sun Yat-sen Museum to Keelung, Taiwan for the third time. On November 8 last year, the Battle of Xu Bang broke out and the Kuomintang army suffered a major defeat. The directors of the Palace Museum and Sun Yat-sen Museum believed that Nanjing would be affected by the war and the safety of the Palace Museum's cultural relics was extremely worrying, so they decided to select and transport high-quality products to Taiwan for preservation. Rare books from the National Central Library and Peking Library and treaty archives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are also included in the shipment. On December 21 last year, the first batch of cultural relics from the Forbidden City was shipped at Xiaguan, Nanjing, carried by the Navy's Zhongding Ship, and arrived in Keelung on the 26th. On January 6 this year, the second batch of cultural relics was carried by the China Merchants Group's Haihu Ship and arrived in Keelung on the 9th. The third batch was transported by the Navy's Kunlun ship on January 30 and arrived in Keelung today.
