Thirty-five years ago today, on March 11, 1990 (February 15, 1990 lunar calendar), Lithuania issued a declaration of independence from the Soviet Union. The Republic of Lithuania is located on the Baltic Sea, bordering Latvian, Belarus, Poland and Russia. It covers an area of 65,200 square kilometers. The total length of the border is 1846 kilometers, of which the land border is 1747 kilometers and the coastline is 99 kilometers long. The unified Grand Duchy of Lithuania was established in 1240. Lithuania and Poland were united three times after 1385. Lithuania was gradually annexed by Czarist Russia after 1795. During the First World War, it was occupied by Germany. After the October Revolution, Soviet power was established on most of the territory of the country. On February 16, 1918, Lithuania declared independence and established a bourgeois republic. In August 1939, the Soviet Union and Germany signed a secret treaty, which immediately placed it in the Soviet sphere of influence and was immediately occupied by the Soviet Union. After the outbreak of the Soviet-German War, Lithuania was occupied by Germany. In 1944, Soviet troops entered Lithuania and established the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic and joined the Soviet Union. On March 11, 1990, the Declaration of Secession from the Soviet Union and the Restoration of Independence was issued. On September 6, 1991, the Soviet Council of State recognized the independence. Joined the United Nations immediately on September 17. Diplomatic relations with our country were established on September 14, 1991.
