40 years ago today, on March 12, 1985 (January 21, 1985 in the lunar calendar), Taiwanese writer Yang Kui passed away. On March 12, 1985, the famous Taiwanese writer Yang Kui died of a heart attack in Taichung at the age of 80. Yang Kui, whose original name was Yang Gui, was born in Xinhua Town, Tainan County in 1905. He went to Japan to study at the age of 19, working and studying part-time. In 1927 (aged 22) returned to Taiwan to participate in the Anti-Japanese Peasant Movement and Cultural Movement. He was arrested and imprisoned by Japanese police 10 times. After being released from prison, he ran "Shouyang Farm", made a living selling flowers, and engaged in writing. The early masterpiece "Newspaper Delivery" was praised as the first novel with literary qualities to write the truth about Japanese society, and had a great impact on Taiwan's New Literary Movement. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Mr. Yang Kui successively founded "Yiyang Weekly" and edited the supplement of "Li Xing Bao" and the series of "Taiwan Literature". He was arrested by the Taiwan authorities in 1949 and released from prison on Green Island for ten years. In his later years, he lived in poverty and still lived by growing flowers. Yang Kui's main works include the novel collection "Mother Goose Married", the prose collection "Sheep Head Collection", etc. Yang Kui---was arrested more than 10 times by the Japanese police for participating in anti-Japanese activities and unyielding. Driving away the Japanese colonial rulers, realizing the reunification of the motherland, and the freedom and independence of the Chinese nation are the most prominent themes of his works.
