Loulan Ancient Country Site

In March 1901, Sven Hedin excavated the ancient city. He couldn't wait to issue a reward. If anyone could find any form of human writing first, he would be rewarded heavily. Small pieces of felt, red cloth, brown hair plaits, coins, pottery chips, etc. were constantly unearthed at the excavation site. As the excavation continued, a large number of Chinese and Luwen wooden slips, paper documents, some Sogdian documents, as well as exquisite silk and wool fabrics, and unique wood carving ornaments were finally unearthed. [3]For a whole week, Sven Hedin not only carried out excavations, but also investigated the temple sites and residential sites of the ancient city. He found that the word "Kroraina" appeared many times on the bamboo slips unearthed in the ancient city. Based on the Chinese bamboo slips found in the site, he called the city Loulan, so he presumed that Loulan was a transliteration of "Kroraina."

The world-famous ancient city of Loulan, an important historic site in Xinjiang, is located in the west of Lop Nur, the hub of the Western Regions, and occupies an extremely important position on the ancient Silk Road. Silk and tea from the mainland of my country, horses, grapes and jewelry from the Western Regions were first traded through Loulan. The ancient country of Loulan was founded before 176 BC, but suddenly and mysteriously disappeared in 630 AD, leaving only a piece of ruins standing quietly in the desert, arousing a lot of reverie for future generations.

More than 10 of the walls around Loulan Ancient City had collapsed, leaving only the intermittent walls standing alone. The urban area was square, covering an area of about 120,000 square meters. The panoramic view of the Loulan ruins was ancient and dignified, and the dilapidated buildings in the city were lifeless.

The ancient city of Loulan used to be a paradise for people to live and multiply. It was founded before 176 BC and died out in 630 AD. It has a history of more than 800 years. It runs from the vicinity of Guyangguan in the east, the ancient city of Niya in the west, the ancient city of Aljinshan in the south, and Hami in the north. It is surrounded by the misty Lop Nur, surrounded by clear rivers in front of its doors. People go boating fishing on the blue waves, hunting in the dense poplar forest, and people bathe in the blessings of nature. According to Li Daoyuan's "Water Classic Notes", after the Eastern Han Dynasty, due to the diversion of the river in the middle reaches of the Tarim River at that time, Loulan was seriously short of water. Soler of Dunhuang led 1,000 troops to Loulan, and summoned 3,000 soldiers from Shanshan, Yanqi, and Qiuci to cross the river day and night, diverting water into Loulan, alleviating the water shortage in Loulan. But after that, despite Loulan's maximum efforts and attempts to dredge the river, the ancient city of Loulan was eventually abandoned due to water shortages.
