Sun Yunwei is an orchard scientist and horticulture educator. Achievements have been made in fruit tree cultivation, fruit tree history in China, and fruit tree resources research. He has compiled and published many monographs such as "Fruit Tree History and Fruit Tree Resources in China" and "Fruit Trees in Northwest China". It has made contributions to the development of my country's fruit tree industry and education. Sun Yunwei was originally named Sun Hua. Born on January 10, 1908 in Wujiang County, Jiangsu Province. Her mother lost her mother at the age of 12 and was raised by her brothers and sister-in-law. In 1928, he graduated from Suzhou Agricultural School. Due to his family's financial difficulties, he did not continue his studies. He went to Nanjing Sun Yat-sen Cemetery as a technician, managing more than 500 acres of orchards and vegetable fields. After working there for more than three years, he has accumulated rich experience in fruit tree and vegetable production. During this period, he has compiled 6 popular horticultural books, including "Tomato and Strawberry Cultivation Method" and "The Latest Watermelon and Lily Cultivation Method". In 1932, he relied on the royalties from publishing three books and the financial support of his brother and sister-in-law to travel east to Japan and study abroad at his own expense. He came to the Japan National Horticultural Experimental Ground, studied hard, worked hard, and learned many new technologies, such as watermelon grafting technology, strawberry promotion cultivation, solar heat stone wall cultivation technology on hillsides, mushroom strain propagation technology, etc. He wrote articles on these new technologies and sent them back to China for publication, which was well received by domestic readers. In April 1934, he returned to China due to economic difficulties. In April 1935, he went to Japan for the second time at his own expense at the Horticulture Research Laboratory of the Department of Agriculture of Kyushu Imperial University (now Kyushu University) to systematically study the theory and cultivation techniques of Japanese fruit tree horticulture. He inspected Hokkaido University and the Aomori Apple Experimental Ground, and returned to China in June 1936. After returning to China, he successively worked in Qingdao Agriculture and Forestry Office, Qingdao Fruit Production Company, and Shanghai Fruit Inspection Office. In January 1940, he moved to Beijing to serve as the director of the Beijing Horticultural Experimental Ground. He was mainly engaged in the cultivation of fruit trees, vegetables, flowers, and the promotion of fruit seedlings and seeds, as well as the rectification and construction of the entire site. He served as a counselor and deputy director of the deliberation department of the North China Fiber Control Federation, which was occupied by the Japanese invaders at that time, specializing in technical work. In May 1945, he went to Qufu Agricultural College in Shandong Province to lead the preparatory work, and soon he went to Hangzhou China Agricultural Products Company as the chief technician and farm director. In January 1947, he served as a professor in the Department of Horticulture at Northwest Agricultural College, and in July 1948, he served as a professor at the School of Agriculture at Zhongzheng University in Nanchang. Nanchang was liberated in May 1949, and he went to Nanchang to study at the August 1st Revolutionary University. This study became a "turning point in his life." He said: "Intellectuals from the old society can only play their due role under the leadership of the Communist Party..." At that time, someone offered him a plane ticket to Taiwan, but he flatly refused. In the winter of 1949, he returned to Northwest Agricultural College as professor and chairman of the Department of Horticulture. He deeply felt that he was fortunate in a prosperous era and actively devoted himself to fruit tree teaching, scientific research, editing and promotion of production technology. In 1950, he joined the China Democratic League. Joined the Communist Party of China in 1962. He was elected as a representative of the Second and Third National People's Congresses of Shaanxi Province. He has served as a member of the Shaanxi Province Association for Science and Technology, chairman and honorary chairman of the Shaanxi Province Horticultural Society.
