Breaking-News >> TodayHistory February 25, 1836 Colt invented the revolver
On this day, 189 years ago, on February 25, 1836 (January 9, 1836 in the lunar calendar), Colt invented the revolver. On February 25, 1836, American inventor Samuel Colt obtained a patent for the invention of a five-bullet revolver. The design of the wheel of revolvers dates back to the flint lock era in 1718. However, early revolvers mostly used multiple barrels and were very heavy, or could not prevent the wheel from being reversed, so they did not have great practical value. In 1835, American Samuel Colt improved the design of his predecessors and obtained patents from Britain and the United States. Due to Colt's sales skills and the fact that the United States did not have state-owned or monopolized private arsenals monopolized all firearms because of confidentiality in Europe at that time, Colt was able to pass down his name to the world, so that later generations equated him with a revolver. Colt was even mistaken for the inventor of the first revolver. In fact, in 1718, British lawyer James Puckle invented the nine-shot PuckleGun, and Englishman Elisha Collier obtained the British patent for the rotating flint gun in 1818.
