Twenty-eight years ago today, on March 25th, 1997 (February 17th, 1997 in the lunar calendar), former US President George H.W. Bush realized his dream of skydiving. On March 25th, 1997, 72-year-old former US President Bush successfully parachuted over the desert of Arizona, USA, realizing his long-cherished wish for more than 50 years, and becoming the first active skydiver among all previous US presidents. Bush served in the U.S. Navy Air Force during World War II. On September 2, 1944, the bomber he piloted was shot down by the Japanese Navy while performing a mission over the Pacific Ocean. In an emergency, he parachuted to escape. At that time, Bush made a promise to himself: he would complete a non-emergency active skydiving in his lifetime. This jump Bush took off from an altitude of more than 3,800 meters. When he was still 1,300 meters above the ground, he opened the rainbow-colored parachute and floated down. After landing safely, Bush, dressed in a white skydiving suit, greeted the people present with a big smile. Mrs. Barbara Bush gave him a warm hug and congratulated him.
