On this day, 79 years ago, on February 8, 1946 (January 7, 1946 in the lunar calendar), Kim Il Sung was elected chairman of the Provisional People's Committee of Korea. Kim Il Sung was born on April 15, 1912. His original name was Jin Chengzhu. Joined the Communist Party of Korea in 1931. He led the armed struggle against Japan's occupation of Korea in the mid-1930s. During World War II, he served as commander of the Korean Detachment of the Soviet Army. He returned to China in 1945 and established a Communist regime in North Korea. On February 8, 1946, he served as chairman of the Provisional People's Committee of Korea. Elected as President of the Republic of Korea in 1972, he has always proposed the reunification of the north and south Korea. In 1980, it was again proposed to form a federation between the north and the south. One of the conditions was that the United States withdraw its U.S. troops from south Korea.
