Ahmed II, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, was born

Ahmed II (February 25, 1643 - 1695) was a sultan of the Ottoman Empire, and he ruled from 1691 to 1695. Ahmed was the son of Sultan Ibrahim (1640 - 48) and succeeded his brother Suleiman II (1687 - 91) to the throne in 1691.

Ahmed's best known action was his establishment as Grand Vizier (Prime Minister). Just a few weeks after Ahmed ascended the throne, the Ottoman army suffered a fatal blow. At the Battle of Slankman, the Ottoman Empire was defeated by the Austrian army led by Ludwig Wilhelm, Count of Baden, and expelled from Hungary. During his four years in office, disaster after disaster followed, and in 1695 Ahmed died of exhaustion from illness and worry.
