Xia Chengtao is a famous poet. He has devoted his life to the research and teaching of Ci science and is the pioneer and founder of modern Ci science. His series of classic works are undoubtedly landmarks in the history of Ci studies and outstanding cultural and academic achievements in the 20th century. Hu Qiaomu has praised Mr. Xia Chengtao many times as a "generation of Ci masters" and a "master of Ci studies."

Xia Chengtao has the character Qu Chan, the word Qu Beard in the evening, and the nickname is Meng Xusheng. His room name is Lunlulou, Tianfeng Pavilion, Jade Lintang, and Chaoyang Building. Born on February 10, 1900, he was a native of Wenzhou, Zhejiang. He graduated from Wenzhou Normal School in 1918. In 1930, he was transferred from Yanzhou Jiuzhong Middle School to Zhijiang University to teach. After liberation, he served as a professor at Zhejiang University. After liberation, he served as a concurrent researcher at the Institute of Literature of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, director and researcher of the Language and Literature Research Office of the Zhejiang Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; editorial board member of "Literary Research" magazine, editor-in-chief of "Ci" magazine, and consultant of the Chinese Tang Dynasty Literary Society. He served as a member Mr. Xia Chengtao, as an outstanding word scientist, is not only the summarizer of traditional word learning, but also the founder of modern word learning.

Mr. Xia Chengtao, known as the "master of ci", after the age of 20, he went north to Ji Jin and west to Chang'an, his vision expanded, his experience deepened, and he wrote many works of worry and indignation. Around the age of 30, he put his main energy on writing ci monographs such as "Chronology of Ci People in the Tang and Song Dynasties", "Ci Series in the Tang and Song Dynasties" and "Jiang Baishi Ci Compilation Year", but he did not give up chanting. After the age of 30, he specialized in ci, and Hongbo was profound, which played a significant role in the development of ci in our country. On the one hand, he inherited the strengths of Ci studies in the past dynasties, and on the other hand, he made many pioneering and innovative efforts in traditional Ci studies. He studied word body, word music, word rhythm and word history with a realistic attitude, which greatly expanded the field of Ci studies and made outstanding contributions to the scientific, systematic and theoretical track of Ci studies. Around the age of 50, while conducting Ci studies, he also wrote many innovative works.

Among the nearly 10 million words of works embodying Mr. Xia Chengtao's lifelong efforts, there are nearly 30 published monographs on Ci science, more than 100 uncollected papers, and there are still many works to be compiled and published. Among them,"Chronicles of Tang and Song Ci Writers","Tang and Song Ci Essay Collection","Jiang Baishi's Ci Chronicles and Checks", etc. are all rare masterpieces since the beginning of Ci study. He also wrote a large number of poems, represented by "Xia Chengtao's Ci Collection" and "Tianfengge Poetry Collection", and wrote the unique "Tianfengge Poetry Learning Diary". Mr. Xia Chengtao's academic achievements have also been highly praised internationally. After 1981, he served as honorary president of China Rhyme Society and editor-in-chief of "Ci Xue". On May 11, 1986, Xia Chengtao died in Beijing due to illness.
