230 years ago today, on February 3, 1795 (January 14, 1795 in the lunar calendar), Sucre, the hero of national liberation struggle, was born. On February 3, 1795, Antonio Josde Sucre was born in a native white aristocratic family in Kumana, eastern Venezuela. At the age of 15, he joined the national liberation struggle. In 1811, after Venezuela declared its independence and established the First Republic, he fought to defend the Republic. In July 1812, the Republic was overthrown, and he went into exile to Trinidad to fight guerrilla warfare. In 1818, he transferred to the troops under Bolívar's direct leadership, and soon became Bolívar's right-hand man and close comrade-in-arms. In May 1819, Bolivar's forces liberated Bogota and established the Republic of Gran Colombia. Sucre was successively appointed as the commander-in-chief of the Colombian army to liberate Ecuador and the commander of the vanguard troops of the Colombian army on the expedition to Peru. He was brave and good at fighting, defeated the Spanish colonial army with less, and made immortal contributions to the national liberation cause of Ecuador and Peru. In 1825, Sucre was elected the first constitutional president and renamed the capital, Chuquisaca, Ciudad Sucre. Ecuador used his name as the unit of currency in his honor; In recognition of his achievements, Venezuela named his hometown Sucre State. In 1830, Sucre was assassinated.
