UN Secretary-General Guterres said today¡¯s world nuclear arms race is more complex, more difficult to predict and more dangerous, the risk of escalating conflict and misjudgment is increasing, and nuclear disarmament is the basis of peace.

The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly said that the United Nations has effective frameworks for reducing nuclear hazards, such as the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and the Treaty on the Comprehensive Prohibition of Nuclear Tests, and that every member state, including nuclear possessors, must effectively implement the relevant treaties.

China's permanent deputy representative to the UN said at the meeting that nuclear weapons are a major security threat facing countries around the world, comprehensively prohibit and completely destroy nuclear weapons, and ultimately establish a world without nuclear weapons, in line with the common interests of all mankind.At present, the international security situation is deeply evolving, the geological conflict is rising, the nuclear disarmament process is facing unprecedented challenges, the nuclear arms race and the risk of nuclear conflict is rising, and the international community should work together to promote nuclear disarmament, prevent nuclear proliferation, and reduce nuclear risk.

In December 2013, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution declaring September 26th every year as the "International Day for the Complete Elimination of Nuclear Weapons", aiming at reminding nuclear weapons of the threat to mankind and the necessity of completely eliminating nuclear weapons.
