The first Davis Trophy

On February 9, 1900, talented college athlete Dwight F Davis offered him a new tennis trophy. This is a silver cup, weighing about 36 pounds, and will be awarded to the winner of this year's match against the British team in Newport, Rhode Island.

This move was later used to name the World Open Tennis Championship the Davis Cup.
