On January 23, 2005 (December 14, 2004 in the lunar calendar), Viktor Yushchenko was sworn in as President of Ukraine. The "orange storm" in Ukraine reached its climax with Viktor Yushchenko being sworn in as president on January 23, 2005. On the same day, orange flags were hoisted on Independence Square in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, and tens of thousands of supporters gathered here to witness the final conclusion of the presidential election dispute. "A legitimate move" touched the Bible and the Constitution, and Yushchenko read out the oath of office loudly in the parliament. As soon as he finished speaking, some participants shouted in unison: "Yushchenko! Yushchenko!" This was the most commonly used slogan in Yushchenko's "Orange Corps" campaign. Nikolai Serion, President of the Constitutional Court, later announced: "The newly elected President of Ukraine Viktor Andreyevich Yushchenko has formally sworn in loyalty to the people of Ukraine and has now taken office as president." In a brief speech, Yushchenko reiterated: "The presidential election results were honest and the transfer of power was legal. This is a national victory." Yushchenko said,"We have only one goal-to build a democratic and prosperous Ukraine. "We must work with the people and work for the people," Yushchenko said. After the power struggle, perhaps this is what the people of Ukraine really need. In his speech, Yushchenko promised that the new government would actively create job opportunities for the people and provide them with reasonable salaries. He also stated the need to crack down on corruption, strengthen taxation, and make business activities transparent. Amid the national anthem, Yushchenko put his hand on his chest, and his face, damaged by poisoning, appeared calm. "Integrating into Europe" to congratulate Yushchenko's inauguration, U.S. Secretary of State Powell, who is about to leave, went to Ukraine as a distinguished guest. One person said his congratulations and the other said his thanks. Bao Qing and Yushchenko met before the inauguration ceremony to talk about "democracy." Yushchenko told Powell at his campaign headquarters: "None of this would have happened without the support of partners who advocate democratic policies and share democratic values. And I can be sure that this list includes the United States and your personal contributions." Powell praised Yushchenko and said: "Winning in such an open, free and equal election is a huge success. At the end of the meeting, he said what Yushchenko wanted to hear most: "I want to assure you that the U.S. government and people will continue to fully support you as you move forward and strive to realize the aspirations of the Ukraine people." Seizing U.S. support, Yushchenko did not forget to rebuild good-neighborly relations with Russia. After taking office, the new Ukraine president set the destination of his first visit on the 24th as Moscow. After that, Yushchenko will start a 4-day European trip. When he met with Solana, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on the 21st, he said that "integrating into Europe" is currently the first choice for Ukraine. Yushchenko reiterated at the inauguration ceremony: "Ukraine is at the center of Europe... Our place is in the EU... The direction of a united Europe is going to be our future."
