On February 20, 1925, workers at the Shanghai cotton yarn factory went on strike
100 years ago today, on February 20, 1925 (January 28, 1925 in the lunar calendar), workers at the Shanghai Cotton Yarn Factory went on strike. On February 9, 1925, workers at the Japanese cotton yarn factory in Shanghai went on strike. The strike was triggered by Japanese capitalists who fired a group of male workers, replaced them with male and female workers, and arrested worker representatives. More than 40000 people from 22 cotton yarn factories participated in the strike. The Japanese imperialists used traps, bribes, rumors and other means to attempt to disintegrate and destroy, but all failed; Later, warships were dispatched to demonstrate with armed force; and the Japanese Minister in China made representations to the China warlord government and instigated the warlord government to interfere in the strike, but this still failed. Under the leadership of Communists Deng Zhongxia and Liu Hua, the strike ended successfully on March 1.
