On this day, 27 years ago, on February 6, 1998 (January 10, 1998 lunar calendar), Kim Jong-mi said that South Korea would not develop official relations with Taiwan. On February 6, 1998, Kim Jong-mi, honorary president of the Korea League for Freedom and Democracy, said that South Korea would abide by the agreement when it established diplomatic relations with China and would not develop official relations with Taiwan. Kim Jong-mi will visit China from February 8 to 12 at the invitation of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. He made the above remarks when he met with Chinese reporters before his departure. He said that the Taiwan issue is China's internal affairs. When South Korea and China established diplomatic relations, they had already reached an agreement on this issue. South Korea will faithfully abide by its commitment and will not develop official relations with Taiwan. There will be no violation of its promise. Interactions between South Korea and Taiwan will only be maintained within the scope of the people. Kim Jong-mi's Liberal Democratic Alliance and Kim Dae-jung's New Political National Assembly reached an agreement before last year's general election. After Kim Dae-jung is elected president, the two parties will jointly govern, with a member of the Liberal Democratic Alliance as the prime minister. Therefore, Kim Jong-mi is expected to become the prime minister of South Korea.
