Lincoln was inaugurated as the 16th President of the United States in Washington

On February 11, 1861, Lincoln became the 16th President of the United States in Washington. He issued the official Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. The Proclamation freed 200,000 slaves during the Civil War.
