Moscow University is Russia's largest and oldest comprehensive college. Full name Lomonosov State University of Moscow. The school is located in Moscow. It was initiated and founded by the educator M.B. Lomonosov in 1755. On January 25, 1755, Russian tsarist Elizabeth Petrovna ordered the establishment of Moscow University. The former site was at No. 11 Mohova Street. It was burned down in 1812 and rebuilt from 1817 to 1819. In September 1953, a new school building was built on Lenin Mountain in the southwest of Moscow. The 32-story main building includes a 55-meter-long spire and has a total height of 240 meters with a five-pointed star logo at the top; on both sides are 18-story auxiliary buildings, each equipped with a 9-meter-diameter clock. The entire building is imposing. The school has 16 departments and more than 50 majors. It gathers the country's first-class academicians, professors and doctors of the Academy of Sciences. It has about 30,000 students, including international students from more than 100 countries. It has 4 observatories, 3 museums, a botanical garden with an area of nearly 50 hectares, as well as various scientific research institutions and laboratories, as well as squares, sports fields, gymnasiums, theaters, auditoriums, etc. It covers a total area of 320 hectares.
