Chen Yu (1901-1974), was born on November 11, 1901 in Chenwu Village, Nantou, Bao'an County, Guangdong Province. His young name was Chen Xugui, and he changed his name to Chen Yu when he was a worker. In 1924, he served as an officer of the Hong Kong Chinese Seamen's Industry Federation. In 1925, he served as the vice chairperson of the Hong Kong Chinese Seamen's Industry Federation, and also served as the chairperson of the Pacific Route Branch. He joined the Communist Party of China in August of the same year. In 1927, he served as the chairperson of the All-China Seamen's Federation. On December 11, the Guangzhou Uprising broke out under the leadership of Zhang Tailei, Ye Ting, Ye Jianying, Chen Yu and others. After the success of the uprising, Chen Yu served In January 1931, the Fourth Plenary Session of the Sixth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was elected as a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and the representative of the Communist Party of China to the Communist International. In June of the same year, he was sent to the Lenin Institute of the Soviet Union to study and served as the secretary of the Party Branch of the Chinese Department of the Lenin Institute of the Communist Party of China. In 1934, Wang Ming took advantage of the opportunity of the Soviet Qing Party to brand Chen Yu as a "rightist" and sent him to work in the Stalingrad Tractor Factory. On April 28, 1945, Chen Yu participated in the "Seventh National Congress" of the Communist Party of China as a representative of the Central Committee and was elected as an alternate member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. In 1972, he was elected as the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee at the Guangdong Provincial Party Congress.
