On this day 88 years ago, on February 2, 1937 (December 21, 1936 in the lunar calendar), Wang Yizhe was killed and the Northeast Army was divided. On the morning of February 2, 1937, the Northeast Army officers Sun Mingjiu, Ying Detian, and Miao Jianqiu launched an incident and shot and killed the Northeast Army Lord and General Wang Yizhe. They were dissatisfied because Wang Yizhe advocated and detained Chiang Kai-shek who made peace with Zhang Xueliang. He Zhuguo, Ding Xuezhong, and others were spared because they had avoided the Yanghucheng Mansion in advance. After Zhou Enlai heard the news, he severely criticized the mistake of killing Wang and waited with Liu Ding until Wang Yizhe's family offered condolences; then, they went to Xincheng and Yanghucheng to discuss. On the 3rd, the Northeast Army stationed on the Weinan front line learned that Wang Yizhe was killed and immediately moved to Xi'an, claiming to kill Sun Mingjiu and others to avenge General Wang Yizhe. Zhou Enlai sent Liu Lanbo to Weinan to explain the situation and persuade the overall situation to be the priority and maintain the unity of the Northeast Army. Because the Northeast Army retreated westward, on the 4th, the Kuomintang Central Army advanced into Weinan. The situation in Xi'an was tense. Zhou Enlai decided to withdraw most of his comrades, including Bogu, Ye Jianying, and Li Kenong, to the Red Army garrison in Sanyuan, and he himself stayed in Xi'an. On the 6th, Yang Hucheng led his troops to leave Xi'an and retreat to Sanyuan. On the same day, Shen Da, commander of the 106th Division of the Northeast Army, Tan Zixin, commander of the cavalry division, and others called the Kuomintang and surrendered to Chiang Kai-shek. Senior generals of the Northeast Army demanded the transfer to the East.
