On February 25, 1682, the 6th Dalai Lama Tsangyang Gyatso died
On this day 343 years ago, on February 25, 1682 (January 19, 1682 lunar calendar), the sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso, passed away. The sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso, a Monba, a famous figure in the history of Xizang, was born in 1683 AD (the Year of the Water Pig in the Tibetan calendar, the 22nd year of Kangxi). He was born in a serf family in Wujianlin Village, Yusong District, under the Manyu Nala Mountain in the southern part of Xizang. His father, Tashi Tenzin, and his mother, Tsangram, had followed Ningma Buddhism for generations. On February 25, 1682, the fifth Dalai Lama, Rosanggyatso, passed away after the Potala Palace had just been built. Sangjie Gyatso, a close disciple of the Fifth Dalai Lama, in order to continue to use the Dalai Lama's authority to manage the affairs of the Gelugpa (Yellow Religion), kept secret and lied to the masses of monks and the then central Emperor Kangxi for 15 years. In 1696, when Emperor Kangxi was quelling the rebellion in Junggar, he accidentally learned that the Fifth Dalai Lama had been dead for many years. He was very angry and wrote a letter to sternly reprimand Sangjie Gyatso. On the one hand, Sangjie Gyatso admitted his mistake to Kangxi, while sending someone to find a 15-year-old boy as the reincarnation of the Fifth Dalai Lama. This 15-year-old boy is the famous romantic poet in the history of Xizang and the famous 6th Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso. In 1697 (the Year of the Fire Rabbit in the Tibetan calendar), Tsangyang Gyatso was selected as the "reincarnation boy" of the Fifth Dalai Lama. In September of that year, when he arrived in Lhasa from southern Tibet and passed through Langkazi County, he was taught by the Fifth Panchen Lama, Rosang Yixi (1663-1737), shaved his hair and received a novice ring, and took the French name, Rosang Rinchen Tsangyang Gyatso. On October 25 of the same year, he held a bedding ceremony at the Potala Palace in Lhasa and became the Sixth Dalai Lama. Although the sixth Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso, was in the position of the head of politics and religion in Xizang, he could not hold the power of politics and religion. In fact, he was just a puppet that Sangjie Gyatso found to deal with Emperor Kangxi In 1701 (the Year of the Golden Snake in the Tibetan calendar), Lazang Khan, the great-grandson of Gushi Khan, inherited the throne of Khan, and the contradiction with Diba (that is, the Tibetan king) Sangjie Gyatso became increasingly acute. In 1705 (the Year of the Rooster in the Tibetan calendar), Sangjie Gyatso bribed the attendants of Khan's mansion and poisoned Lazang Khan's diet. Lazang Khan found out that a war broke out between the two sides, the Tibetan army was defeated, and Sangjie Gyatso was executed. After the incident, Lazang Khan reported the "rebellion" of Sangjie Gyatso to Emperor Kangxi, and claimed that the sixth Dalai Lama, Cangyang Gyatso, did not abide by the rules and was a fake Dalai Lama. Emperor Kangxi agreed and decided to send Cangyang Gyatso In the Year of the Fire Dog (1706), Cangyang Gyatso died while on his way to the lakeside of Qinghai Province. According to the "Records of the Holy Ancestors", "Lazang sent a fake Dalai Lama, and he died outside the mouth of Xining" at the age of 24. Some legends say that he gave up his position and decided to escape, traveling to Mongolia, Xizang, India, Nepal and other places, and later died in Alxa at the age of 64.
