On this day, 94 years ago, February 1, 1931 (December 14, 1930, the lunar calendar), former President of The Russian Federation Yeltsin was born. Yeltsin, the first family in Russia, was born on sunrise on February 1, 1931 in Sverdlovsk Oblast (South Ural), of Russian nationality. After graduating from the Department of Architecture at Ural Institute of Technology in 1955, he worked in Sverdlovsk for 30 years. He served as the chief engineer and manager of the city's Housing and Construction Joint Company. In 1976, he served as the first secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in Sverdlovsk. Yeltsin was transferred to Moscow in 1985 to serve as party and political figures. From December 1985 to November 1987, he served as the first secretary of the Moscow Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and from November 1987 to May 1989, he served as the first vice chairman of the Soviet State Construction Committee. Yeltsin was elected as the People's Representative of the Soviet Union in March 1989 and was elected Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation at the First People's Congress of Russia in May 1990. In June 1991, Yeltsin was elected as the first president of The Russian Federation in a national election. In December 1991, he and the leaders of 10 other republics of the former Soviet Union issued a joint declaration announcing the establishment of the Commonwealth of Independent States. In July 1996, Yeltsin was re-elected President of The Russian Federation. On December 31, 1999, Yeltsin decided to resign as president. Yeltsin visited China many times during his tenure as president. Yeltsin's wife, Naina Yeltsin, is a retired construction engineer. Yeltsin's eldest daughter was a powerful aide in his campaign. While taking care of the children, Yeltsin was very fond of his three grandchildren and granddaughter Yeltsin. His hobby of tennis was second only to politics, and golf was also one of Yeltsin's hobbies. Yeltsin tried his best during the campaign.
