Seventy-six years ago today, on April 21, 1949 (March 24, 1949), Mao Zedong and Zhu De issued the "Order to March on the Whole Country", and millions of troops crossed the Yangtze River. Mao Zedong and Zhu De issued the order to march on the whole country, ordering the People's Liberation Army to advance bravely and resolutely, thoroughly, cleanly and completely annihilate the enemy. "Fight the Yangtze River and liberate the whole of China," this is the order personally issued by Chairperson Mao Zedong and Commander-in-Chief Zhu De after the battles of Liaoshen, Huaihai and Pingjin. After three major battles, the main forces of the Kuomintang army were wiped out, but Chiang Kai-shek still wanted to die. On January 21, 1949, Chiang Kai-shek announced his "retirement" amid the scorn of the people of the whole country, and Li Zongren was acting president. But this is just a scam. He is still in power, and the Kuomintang government has not changed its stubborn reactionary position at all. They played both hands of the counter-revolution. On the one hand, they issued peace statements and spread smoke screens for peace talks, attempting to preserve the reactionary forces and gain respite in the name of achieving peace. On the other hand, they built a strong defensive line along the Yangtze River, attempting to create a new situation of the Northern and Southern Dynasties by "crossing the river" with the natural danger of the Yangtze River, and then waiting for an opportunity to make a comeback. From April 1 to 15, 1949, the Chinese Communist Party delegation led by Zhou Enlai and the Kuomintang delegation led by Zhang Zhizhong held negotiations in Peiping and drew up a domestic peace agreement. On April 20, the "Domestic Peace Agreement" negotiated by representatives of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party in Peiping was rejected by the Kuomintang government, so that the face of the reactionaries was completely exposed, and they shouted that the "peace talks" were nothing more than a scam. Therefore, Chairperson Mao and Commander-in-Chief Zhu issued an order to the entire People's Liberation Army: "Forge ahead bravely, resolutely, thoroughly, cleanly and completely annihilate all Kuomintang reactionaries in China who dare to resist, liberate the people of the whole country, and defend the independence and integrity of China's territory and sovereignty." On April 21, 1949, the heroic million-strong troops of the Chinese People's Liberation Army crossed the natural danger of crossing the Yangtze River on a thousand-mile-long front from the mouth of the lake in Jiangxi in the west to Jiangyin in Jiangsu in the east, and launched Countless ships of our army, large and small, gushed out of various ports under the cover of powerful artillery fire and galloped towards the other side. In the roar of fierce artillery fire, the positions of the Kuomintang reactionary army became a sea of fire, and they completely lost their ability to resist. The so-called "three-dimensional defense line" that Chiang Kai-shek painstakingly managed to build collapsed in the face of our powerful offensive. The fire reflected the river and the red sails, and the commando teams advanced bravely in the fire. In less than 24 hours, the 300,000 People's Liberation Army successfully broke through the enemy's defense line and occupied a large area in Jiangnan. On April 23, our army crossed the Yangtze River, launched a fierce attack on Nanjing and other places, and captured Nanjing, the seat of the Kuomintang government, late that night. Nanjing is referred to as Ning, also known as Jinling, Fuling, Jianye and Jiankang in ancient times. It was the ancient capital of our country during the Six Dynasties. During the Three Kingdoms, Wu, Dongjin, Song, Qi, Liang and Chen in the Southern Dynasties, the Southern Tang Dynasty in the Five Dynasties, and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom in the early Ming Dynasty. Nanjing became the center of Kuomintang rule after 1927. The liberation of Nanjing announced the demise of the Kuomintang's reactionary rule and heralded the birth of a new country, the People's Republic of China, where the people were the masters of the country.
