On April 18, 1025, Boleslaw I was crowned the first Polish king in history
On this day, 1000 years ago, April 18, 1025 (March 18, 1025, the lunar calendar), Bolesław I was crowned the first Polish king in history. Bolesław I (the Brave)(ca. 967 - 1025), the second Polish Grand Duke of the Piastian Dynasty (992 - 1025) and the first Polish King (reigned in 1025). Son of Grand Duke Meshko I. During the rule of Bolesław I, Little Poland was officially incorporated into the dynastic territory. He conquered Pomerania in 994. Around 999, Bolesław I invaded Silesia, Moravia and Slovakia, which belonged to the Czech Republic. Bolesław I fought many times with the lofty and untalented Holy Roman Emperor Henry II (1003 - 1005, 1007 - 1013, 1015 - 1018) to avoid Poland being influenced by the Holy Roman Empire. In 1018, the two sides signed the Peace Treaty of Budison. In 1000, Bolesław I established an independent archdiocese in Gniezno, improving Poland's international status. Bolesław I became Duke of Bohemia in 1003. In 1018, he led his army to the Eastern Expedition to Kiev. On April 18, 1025, Bolesław I was crowned king by Pope John XIX on his deathbed.
