A native of Huizhou, Anhui (now She County). Born on March 5, 1901. He died in Beijing on May 7, 1968. In 1915, he was admitted to Tsinghua University, and in 1923, he went to the United States to study at the University of Minnesota, where he received a bachelor's degree. He entered the University of Chicago from 1925 to 1928 and received master's and doctoral degrees successively. He returned to China in 1928 and served as professor and director of the Department of Sociology at Jinling University. In 1931, he served as a professor in the Department of Sociology at Tsinghua University and conducted urban economic surveys. In 1935, he served in the Executive Yuan of the National Government and returned to teach in the Department of Sociology of Tsinghua University in 1947. After 1952, he taught in the Department of Economics at Renmin University of China for a long time. In 1957, Wu Jingchao was mistakenly designated as a famous rightist in the social circle. His main works include: "Social Organization"(1929),"Urban Sociology"(1929),"The Biological Foundation of Society"(1931),"The Way Out for the Fourth Country"(1936),"Disaster After the Disaster"(1947).
