On this day, 36 years ago, on April 25, 1989 (March 20, 1989 in the lunar calendar), Japanese Prime Minister Noboru Takeshita resigned due to a bribery scandal. Noboru Takeshita was born in Shimane Prefecture, Japan in 1924. Graduated from Waseda University in Business. He has been elected to the House of Representatives 11 times since 1958, and has served successively as Youth Director, Deputy Secretary-General, and Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party. In successive cabinets, he successively served as Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives, and Minister of Construction and Finance. In February 1985, he served as President of the "Founding Committee" of the Tanaka School Policy Research Association. In 1987, he was officially established in the Takeshita School. In October of the same year, he served as President of the Liberal Democratic Party. In November, he became Prime Minister and formed a cabinet. During his administration, Noboru Takeshita implemented a proactive fiscal policy to strengthen the domestic demand-led economic structure and stimulate investment in public utilities; externally, Japan and the United States continued to be based on coordination between Japan and the United States to enhance Japan's influence in the international community and strengthen cultural exchanges and economic cooperation between China and Japan. In June 1988, the Likalut bribery case occurred. In March of the following year, the Asahi Shimbun revealed that the company had purchased a banquet ticket worth 20 million yen for Noboru Takeshita, who was the secretary-general. Under pressure from public opinion and opposition parties, Noboru Takeshita explained his relationship with Likalut before the House Budget Committee in April and decided to resign. On April 25, 1989, Noboru Takeshita held a press conference at the Prime Minister's residence to announce his resignation.
