The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, also known as the "Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty" or the "Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty," is an international treaty concluded and signed on January 7, 1968 by 59 countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Soviet Union in London, Washington, and Moscow respectively, with a total of 11 articles. The purpose of the treaty is to prevent nuclear proliferation, promote nuclear disarmament and promote international cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The treaty officially entered into force on March 5, 1970. As of January 2003, there were 186 States parties to the Treaty. The treaty has 11 provisions, the main contents of which are: nuclear states promise not to transfer nuclear weapons directly or indirectly to non-nuclear states and will not assist non-nuclear states in manufacturing nuclear weapons; non-nuclear states promise not to manufacture nuclear weapons, will not directly or indirectly accept nuclear weapons transfers from other countries, and will not seek or accept assistance in manufacturing nuclear weapons, nor will they provide such assistance to other countries; Stop the nuclear arms race and promote nuclear disarmament; Place peaceful nuclear facilities under international safeguards from the International Atomic Energy Agency and provide technical cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. According to relevant regulations, the treaty is valid for 25 years, during which review conferences are held every five years to review the implementation of the treaty. China decided to accede to the Convention on December 29, 1999, and submitted its instrument of accession on March 9, 1992, which entered into force for China at the same time.
