On this day, 47 years ago, March 5, 1978 (January 27, 1978 in the lunar calendar), 24 years after the promulgation of the first constitution, a new constitution of China was promulgated. On March 5, 1978, the first meeting of the Standing Committee of the Fifth National People's Congress formally reviewed and approved the new Constitution in the name of the highest organ of state power. This Constitution basically restores and adheres to some of the good principles and systems of the 1954 Constitution, stipulates the general tasks of the people of the country in the new era in the form of fundamental laws, establishes the legal foundation for the four modernizations, and adheres to the principles of national unity, ethnic equality and international unity. However, due to the influence of the erroneous "two oftentimes" policy at that time, there are still some historical traces of "leftist", reflecting some erroneous and outdated political theoretical views and content that is not in line with actual conditions.
