On March 27, 1996, hepatitis G virus was found in the population of our country
Twenty-nine years ago today, on March 27, 1996 (February 9, 1996 lunar calendar), hepatitis G virus was found in our country's population. On March 27, 1996, it was reported that the Institute of Liver Diseases, People's Hospital of Beijing Medical University, applied genetic diagnostic technology. Recently, hepatitis G virus infection was found for the first time in the blood of individual blood donors, patients with chronic hepatitis and patients with cirrhosis in our country, indicating that our country has made great progress in the prevention and treatment of new hepatitis. For a long time, there are five types of hepatitis viruses that can be diagnosed clearly. Among them, the two viruses that cause chronic hepatitis and other serious liver damage are B and C. They advocate blood transmission. Due to the extensive use of sensitive and specific diagnostic reagents for testing in our country, the transmission of these viruses through blood has been well controlled, and 80% of the diagnoses can be made clinically. However, for the other 20% of chronic hepatitis patients and post-transfusion hepatitis, no known hepatitis virus indicators have been found, indicating that there must be other unknown hepatitis virus infections. From the second half of 1995 to January 1996, two laboratories in the United States published the genetic sequence of a new type of hepatitis virus other than A to E. It was initially named Hepatitis G virus (HGV) in our country. This virus is similar to hepatitis C virus, and its transmission route and pathogenicity are also similar to hepatitis C virus, and it can exist in the human body for a long time. Recently, the Institute of Liver Diseases of Renmin Hospital of Beijing Medical University found 8% of hepatitis G virus carriers in a blood supply population of more than 200 cases in the north of our country. After confirming through relevant sequence analysis, they also found hepatitis G virus in the serum of patients with chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis with negative hepatitis A to E virus markers. This result shows that blood transfusion is an important way for the transmission of hepatitis G virus; this virus plays an important role in causing chronic hepatitis, and it is likely to be the third most chronic liver disease virus in our country after hepatitis B and C. In order to reduce and control the spread of hepatitis G virus as soon as possible, after the liver disease research that first developed the hepatitis B diagnostic reagent in our country in the 1970s, the hepatitis G virus genetic diagnostic reagent was recently developed and has begun to be used in clinical applications.
