On March 13, 1906, American feminist activist Susan Anthony died
119 years ago today, on March 13, 1906 (February 19, 1906 in the lunar calendar), American feminist activist Susan Anthony passed away. Susan Brownnell Anthony (February 15, 1820-March 13, 1906) was a 19th century American feminist and social activist who made outstanding contributions to the fight for American women's suffrage. In the 1872 U.S. presidential election, Anthony led a group of women to the polling station to vote. Because it was illegal for women to vote at the time, she was arrested and charged. She was eventually found guilty and fined a hundred dollars. But she refused to pay the fine, and no one asked her for payment afterwards.
