On May 6, 2010 (March 23, 2010 in the lunar calendar), 31 people were killed in Chongqing due to strong winds and heavy rains. From late night to early morning on May 5, 2010, Shancheng was hit by the first storm of the year. A 12-degree tornado occurred in Huilong Town, Liangping County, killing 31 people and leaving one missing. Since the night of May 5, an obvious cooling and rainfall has occurred in various parts of Chongqing accompanied by strong winds and hail weather. As of 7:00 on the 6th, there were 7 townships in the city with heavy rains, 46 townships with heavy rains, and Fuling Lidu with a maximum rainfall of 146.7 mm. Most of the rest of the area experienced precipitation above moderate rain. A severe convective weather process occurred in Dianjiang County around 2 am on May 6. The maximum wind force in Shaping Town reached 31.2 meters per second, and a super tornado formed, becoming the largest wind force in the county since meteorological records began. From 0:00 to 6:00 on the 6th, there were torrential rains in three townships in the county. Gale, hail and torrential rain caused many houses in the county to collapse, and transportation, power and other infrastructure were seriously damaged. After the disaster, Liangping County launched an emergency disaster relief emergency plan. County Party Secretary Li Zhixiong, who was on a business trip, immediately made arrangements for disaster relief and rushed back to Liangping; County Chief Dai Xiaohong, County Party Committee Deputy Secretary Huyi, Executive Deputy County Chief Zheng Yunshan, and Deputy County Chief He Yibo led relevant department heads to the scene immediately to deal with the aftermath, and organized the emergency delivery of 25 injured people to the town health center and Liangping County People's Hospital for treatment. At the same time, the county promptly organized forces to enter the village to check the disaster, provide disaster relief, and offer condolences to the victims.
