On February 26, 2016, the longest frozen-thawed embryo IVF in our country was born
On February 26, 2016 (January 19, 2016 in the lunar calendar), a test-tube baby with the longest freeze-thaw time in my country was born after 12 years of cryopreservation. Medical staff put on new clothes for the newborn baby. 40-year-old Ms. Li gave birth to another baby monkey. On February 26, 2016, a woman's embryos that were cryopreserved in the hospital 12 years ago were successfully conceived after thawing and resuscitation. The reporter learned from Tangdu Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University on the 26th that this is currently the longest frozen and thawed embryo IVF born in China. Embryo freezing technology is one of the important derivative technologies of assisted reproductive technology. It is a technique for cryopreserving the remaining available embryos after embryo transfer during the fresh egg retrieval treatment cycle of IVF, and thawing the embryos at an appropriate time. Embryo transfer allows a patient to conceive. According to a person from the Propaganda Department of Tangdu Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University, 12 years ago, Ms. Li underwent IVF technology to assist pregnancy treatment at Tangdu Hospital due to fallopian tube obstruction and polycystic ovary syndrome. In August 2003, she successfully retrieved 12 eggs and formed 12 embryos. Two embryos were transplanted and 7 embryos were frozen. The pregnancy assistance was successful that month. In 2004, she gave birth to a healthy male boy weighing 2900 grams. The remaining seven embryos were cryopreserved using the programmed frozen embryo technology commonly used at the time. In 2015, with the implementation of the second child policy, Ms. Li came to Tangdu Hospital again, wanting to realize her dream of a second child through freeze-thawed embryo IVF technology. In order to successfully resuscitate the embryos, the doctor specially customized a special culture medium suitable for programmed freezing technology for Ms. Li's embryos. After cultivation with this culture medium, 3 of the 7 embryos survived, and 2 of them were selected for transplantation. The pregnancy assistance was successful that month. After a lapse of 12 years, on February 24, 2016, Ms. Li gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing 3440 grams by Caesarean section again. "The hospital currently holds tens of thousands of frozen embryos. Patients with a second child plan and whose embryos are within the frozen storage period can realize their dream of having a second child again." said Wang Xiaohong, director of the Reproductive Medicine Center of Tangdu Hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University. According to reports, the hospital currently has more than 23000 pairs of nearly 100,000 embryos from infertile patients, and a total of more than 27000 embryos have been thawed. The survival rate of thawing and resuscitation is as high as 95%. Nearly 13000 patients have been transplanted and 4293 healthy babies have been born. On February 24, 2016, the freeze-thawed embryo IVF baby born with the longest frozen storage time in my country was successfully born at Tangdu Hospital
