On January 28, 2008 (December 21, 2007 in the lunar calendar), the National Aquatics Center known as the "Water Cube" was completed. The head of the owner unit of the Water Cube received the completion certificate and golden key from Chen Gang, Vice Mayor of Beijing. The National Aquatics Center, also known as the "Water Cube" (WaterCube), is located in the Beijing Olympic Park. It is the main swimming pool built by Beijing for the 2008 Summer Olympics and one of the landmark buildings of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Its design scheme is the "Water Cube" ([H2O] 3) scheme resulting from a global design competition. Construction started on December 24, 2003 and was completed on January 28, 2008. It and the National Stadium (commonly known as the Bird's Nest) are located on both sides of the northern end of the central axis of Beijing, forming a relatively complete image of Beijing as a famous historical and cultural city. The National Aquatics Center is planned to build 62,950 square meters of land, with a total construction area of 65,000-80,000 square meters. The underground part of the building area is not less than 15,000 square meters, and the length, width and height are 177m × 177m × 30m respectively. So far, more than 350,000 compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese from 101 countries and regions have donated a total of 940 million yuan. Among them, Zheng Yutong, Zheng Jiachun father and son and their subordinate companies have donated 50 million yuan.
