106 years ago today, on January 11, 1919 (December 10, 1918 in the lunar calendar), Romania annexed Transylvania. Transylvania, the name of the old region, covers an area of nearly 103,600 square kilometers, more than half of the total area of Romania. Refers to central and western Romania. Located in southeastern Europe, west of the East Carpathian Mountains, the Tissa River Basin, a tributary of the Danube River. Except for Romania, most of the residents are Magyars. Transylvania was a duchy in the Middle Ages. At the end of the 11th century, it was merged into the Kingdom of Hungary. After 1867, it became a subordinate of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
