Women's rights advocates take to the streets of London On February 13, 1907, a group of women demanding political participation stormed Parliament, but their well-organized attack was repelled by the police. About 60 women were arrested. Many were injured in fierce fights with mounted police. On the evening of the 13th, after a rally, the women tried to storm the Parliament building again, but police on horseback and on foot resisted every onslaught from the women. The event lasted from noon to 10 p.m. More than 100 of these women activists vowed to arrest themselves in order to draw more attention to the issue of women's political participation. Anne kenney, one of the leading feminists, promised that if british women were not enfranchised by the end of the conference, she would lead more than 1000 women into the house of representatives.
