On May 15, 2008 (April 11, 2008 in the lunar calendar), 100 people were killed in an oil pipeline explosion in Nigeria. Officials from the International Committee of the Red Cross in Nigeria said on the 15th that an oil pipeline explosion occurred in a village outside the city of Lagos that day and caused a fire, killing at least 100 people and injuring 20 others. The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross said that the YouTube, which was transporting refined fuel, immediately started a fire and spread to the outlying areas. A nearby primary school was engulfed in flames, and many children fled the school. Firefighters are still on the scene to rescue. Explosions caused by oil pipelines have occurred in Nigeria in the past.
