On this day, 79 years ago, on February 18, 1946 (January 17, 1946 in the lunar calendar), the Mumbai Sailors Uprising broke out. On February 18, 1946, Indian sailors at the Mumbai training camp held an uprising against racial discrimination by British officers. The rise of the independence movement in the British colonies after World War II and the unprecedented development of the Indian people's anti-British struggle. Twenty warships in the port of Mumbai and 20,000 soldiers in the city participated in the uprising. 200,000 workers and students in Mumbai went on strike and class strike in support of the sailors 'uprising.
