140 years ago today, January 11, 1885 (November 26, 1884, the lunar calendar) was the birthday of Uchiyama Kanzo, one of the pioneers of Sino-Japanese friendship. Uchiyama Kanzo was born on January 11, 1885 in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. In his youth, he did business in Osaka and Kyoto. In 1912, he went to Shanghai to open Neishan Bookstore. Later, he met Lu Xun and became close friends. In 1945, Mr. Uchiyama returned to Japan and devoted himself to Japan-China friendship activities regardless of personal safety. He was one of the founders of the China-Japan Friendship Association. In 1959, when he went to Beijing to participate in the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the founding of New China, he unfortunately died of cerebral hemorrhage.
