Bell's main achievement was the invention of the telephone. In addition, he also made hearing aids; improved the phonograph invented by Edison; he made great contributions to the invention of deaf-mute language; and he wrote more than 100 articles and pamphlets. From 1875 to 1922, he obtained thirty patents from the U.S. government. Because of these many inventions and creations, Bell received the Centenary Award certificate from the Philadelphia International Exposition in 1876, and in the same year he also received a doctorate of science from Boston University. The following year, he received a Voltaire Prize of 50,000 francs and became a member of the French Legion of Honor. In order to commemorate Bell's achievements, a unit of measurement of power or power density ratio in electricity and acoustics was named "Bell". There are so many telephone providers nowadays, but it was Alexander Bell's credit that created Bell Telephone, the world's first (and most powerful) telephone company. Bell is not just a genius. His research ideas include air conditioning (in fact, he built the original air conditioning system in his room), hydrofoils and the concept of information storage (which led to an innovative invention never seen before in his lifetime-computers). Alexander Bell was also the inventor of the world's first metal detector, which he assembled to discover bullets in the body of U.S. President James Garfield. It turned out that the detector worked, but could not locate the bullet because President Garfield was lying on a metal frame bed during the inspection.
