Breaking-News >> TodayHistory Cartographer Pei Xiu passed away
Pei Xiu (224-271), also known as Xiuyan, was born in Wenxi, Hedong (now Wenxi, Shanxi). A cartographer in the Western Jin Dynasty. He once served as Yanwei, Shangshu, and Shangshu Pushe. During the reign of Emperor Wu, he served as Shangshu Now and Sikong. On the basis of summing up the previous cartography, Pei Xiu proposed the "six bodies of cartography", that is, drawing maps from six aspects: fraction, sight, road, height, evil, and detour, that is, the proportion, orientation, distance, topography, angle, and curve of map drawing. From the Western Jin Dynasty to the late Ming Dynasty, China cartographers have always followed these principles, laying a scientific foundation for China's cartography and playing an important role in the history of world maps. The 18 "Yugong Regional Map" drawn by Pei Xiu were the most complete and detailed zoning maps at that time. Pei Xiu's "Topography Fang Wen Tu" is a simplified map of the Jin Dynasty that has been circulated for hundreds of years. On April 3, 271 AD (the seventh day of the third month, the seventh year of the first year of the Jin Dynasty,{sys:(year(now)-271)} years ago), he died of illness.
