On this day, 147 years ago, on July 24, 1878 (June 25, 1878 in the lunar calendar), Kaiping Mining Bureau was established. As early as the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (1403-l424), local mining was used in the Kaiping Kuangqu mining area in Luan County, Hebei Province. In 1876, Li Hongzhang sent Tang Tingshu to organize, formulate the official supervision and commercial affairs charter, and attract investment and stock collection. On July 24, 1878 (June 25, the fourth year of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty), the "Kaiping Mining Bureau" was officially established in Kaiping Town, Tangshan, Zhili. It was fully put into production in 1881. 3000 employees. In 1882, the annual output of coal was 38000 tons, and in 1898 it reached 730000 tons. Over the years, equipment has been expanded and transportation conditions have been improved. Coal transport ships have been equipped, and special terminals and stacks have been set up. By the end of the 19th century, the total assets were nearly 6 million taels of silver. After Tang Tingshu's death in 1892, Zhang Yi took over as supervisor, and the mining rights were gradually controlled by foreign businessmen.
