On March 28, 1943, Russian composer Rachmaninov died
Eighty-two years ago today, on March 28, 1943 (February 23, 1943 in the lunar calendar), Russian composer Rachmaninoff passed away. On April 2, 1873, Rachmaninoff was born in Onega, Russia. When he was a child, his brother, pianist and conductor Silotti, sent to Moscow piano teacher Zverev to study, and later entered the Moscow Conservatory of Music. At the age of 19, he graduated with a gold medal with the one-act opera "Aleko". In September 1892, the first performance of his piano music "Prelude in C#Minor" attracted public attention. In March 1897, due to the poor performance of the "Symphony No. 1 in D minor", he was once extremely anxious and depressed (after his death, musicians recognized that the song was the greatest and most original symphony work). In 1901, he revived his spirit and composed the "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor". He moved to the United States after October 1917. His main works include "Island of Death", Piano Concerto No. 2 and No. 3,"Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini","Symphony No. 2", etc. He died of illness in the United States on March 28, 1943. He is known as the most famous Russian composer, pianist and conductor of the 20th century and the last great advocate of the Russian romantic tradition.
