Birthday of German bacteriologist and founder of immunology

Behring was born on March 15, 1854. In 1889, he joined the Robert Lich Institute for Health Research in Berlin. He coined the term "antiviral immunity", which was later used to prevent diphtheria. In 1892, diphtheria antitoxin could be produced in batches, and injections of diphtheria antitoxin became a routine treatment for diphtheria. He also invented a vaccine (bovine vaccine) to inoculate calves against tuberculosis. He died on March 31, 1917.
