Sun Yat-sen used Chiang Kai-shek

Chiang Kai-shek in his youth

On March 5, 1918, Chiang Kai-shek received an urgent telegram from Sun Yat-sen and rushed from Shanghai to Guangzhou. This was the first time that Sun Yat-sen used Chiang Kai-shek.

On September 20, 1917, Chiang Kai-shek sent Sun Yat-sen a copy of the "Battle Plan for the Northern Army"; in October, Chiang Kai-shek sent the "Plan of the Yunnan and Guangdong Armies for the Separate Battle of Fujian and Zhejiang", which attracted Sun Yat-sen's attention.

At this time, Sun Yat-sen was short of military talents around him, so on March 5 he telegraphed Chiang Kai-shek to go south. On March 15, Sun Yat-sen sent Chiang Kai-shek to Shantou to take office. Later, due to the strong factional concept in the Guangdong army, Chiang Kai-shek could not do anything, and resigned a few months later.

Key words: March 5, 1918, Sun Yat-sen, Chiang Kai-shek
